Anthropic IPO Timeline Moves to Mid-October, Sources Indicate
As of September 4, individuals with knowledge of the matter stated on Friday that Anthropic is projected to commence promotion of its initial public offering no earlier than mid-October, with the listing finalized just prior to the November U.S. midterm elections.
According to two insiders, the AI firm was previously anticipated to release its IPO prospectus as soon as next week—a pivotal milestone initiating the final phase of the deal. However, they now indicate this disclosure is unlikely before late September, while stressing that all arrangements, including the schedule, remain flexible.
This delay affects what certain investors have described as a potential $2 trillion offering—among the most massive IPOs ever undertaken—and a significant gauge of public-market demand for the swiftly expanding AI sector.
Such timing shifts are not uncommon, as enterprises routinely recalibrate their IPO timelines while navigating market dynamics, regulatory scrutiny, and other preparatory steps.
In connection with the IPO, Anthropic is working to close a $15 billion revolving credit facility, according to one source. Following that, analysts—such as those from banks participating in the financing—are scheduled to convene with the company. Bloomberg News previously reported that Anthropic had been negotiating to enlarge the facility to $15 billion.
The source noted that firms generally allow several weeks to elapse between analyst meetings and the public release of the IPO prospectus, but Anthropic is likely to operate on a compressed timetable given analysts' existing familiarity with the business.
Anthropic declined to provide a comment.
The IPO is poised to be among the most eagerly awaited in history, with investors seeking public-market entry points into the fast-growing AI industry. It may coincide with offerings from other AI firms, such as OpenAI. Notably, Elon Musk's SpaceX debuted publicly in June, achieving a historic $1.77 trillion valuation.
Sources say Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, and Citi are among the financial institutions assisting Anthropic with its IPO.
Goldman Sachs, Citi, and JPMorgan each declined to comment, while Morgan Stanley did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
