French Stocks Close Higher; CAC 40 Gains 0.33%
French equities closed the Monday session in positive territory, propelled by advances in the oil & gas, technology and industrial sectors.
At the Paris close, the CAC 40 was up 0.33%, while the SBF 120 gained 0.25%.
Among the CAC 40's top gainers, STMicroelectronics NV (EPA:STMPA) jumped 4.08%, or 1.83 points, to finish at 46.64. Schneider Electric SE (EPA:SCHN) gained 2.60%, or 7.50 points, ending at 295.50, and Legrand SA (EPA:LEGD) rose 2.59%, or 3.65 points, to 144.55 in late trading.
The session's biggest laggards included Dassault Systèmes SE (EPA:DAST), which slipped 2.19%, or 0.46 points, to 20.56; Compagnie Générale des Établissements Michelin SCA (EPA:MICP), down 1.96%, or 0.69 points, at 34.47; and Kering SA (EPA:PRTP), which declined 1.55%, or 3.80 points, to 241.40.
On the SBF 120, Soitec SA (EPA:SOIT) led advancers with an 11.73% surge to 143.35, followed by X Fab Silicon Foundries EV (EPA:XFAB), which rose 4.96% to 6.35, and Viridien SA (EPA:VIRI), up 4.31% at 89.45.
The SBF 120's worst performers were Nexity (EPA:NEXI), trading down 4.36% at 6.25 in late trade; Sopra Steria Group SA (EPA:SOPR), losing 4.19% to settle at 164.60; and ICADE (EPA:ICAD), down 3.12% to close at 17.40.
On the Paris Stock Exchange, declining stocks outnumbered advancing ones by 284 to 177, with 93 issues ending flat.
Nexity (EPA:NEXI) fell to a five-year low, dropping 4.36%, or 0.28, to 6.25. ICADE (EPA:ICAD) also reached a five-year low, losing 3.12%, or 0.56, to 17.40.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures implied volatility of CAC 40 options, stayed at 18.96, marking a new 52-week high.
December gold futures declined 0.39%, or $17.24, to $4,459.36 per troy ounce. In other commodities, October crude oil gained 1.80%, or $1.65, to $93.13 a barrel, while November Brent rose 1.49%, or $1.43, to $97.71 a barrel.
EUR/USD was little changed at 1.16, with a 0.11% move, while EUR/GBP was also little changed at 0.86, with a 0.06% move.
US dollar index futures were down 0.27% at 98.88.
