Germany stocks mixed at close; DAX slips 0.25%
German equities ended Monday's session on a mixed note, with gains in the technology, utilities, and food & beverage sectors lifting shares, while losses in construction, software, and insurance names weighed on the market.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX slipped 0.25%, while the MDAX index added 0.15%, and the TecDAX index climbed 0.71%.
The DAX's standout gainers of the session included Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (ETR:IFXGn), which jumped 6.91% or 3.93 points to close at 60.79. RWE AG ST O.N. (ETR:RWEG) rose 1.99% or 1.16 points to finish at 59.56, and Commerzbank AG O.N. (ETR:CBKG) advanced 1.64% or 0.69 points to reach 42.75 in late trading.
On the downside, Munich Reinsurance (ETR:MUVGn) was the worst DAX performer, dropping 2.77% or 14.60 points to 513.00 at the close. Hannover Rueck SE (ETR:HNRGn) lost 2.69% or 7.00 points to end at 253.60, while Vonovia SE (ETR:VNAn) declined 2.19% or 0.42 points to 18.73.
MDAX leaders included Nordex SE O.N. (ETR:NDXG), which surged 9.96% to 40.42; Aixtron SE (ETR:AIXGn), up 7.83% to settle at 38.98; and Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (ETR:TKAG), which gained 2.89% to close at 15.65.
The MDAX's biggest laggards were AUTO1 Group SE (ETR:AG1G), falling 3.99% to 21.16 in late trade; TeamViewer AG (ETR:TMV), down 3.43% to 6.62; and Wacker Chemie O.N. (ETR:WCHG), which lost 2.87% to 89.65 at the close.
Topping the TecDAX were Nordex SE O.N. (ETR:NDXG), which climbed 9.96% to 40.42; Aixtron SE (ETR:AIXGn), up 7.83% to 38.98; and Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (ETR:IFXGn), which added 6.91% to close at 60.79.
The TecDAX's worst performers included TeamViewer AG (ETR:TMV), down 3.43% to 6.62 in late trade; Ottobock SE & Co KgaA (ETR:OBCK), losing 2.40% to settle at 56.90; and Eckert & Ziegler AG O.N. (ETR:EUZG), which fell 2.10% to 12.58 at the close.
Market breadth on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange was negative, with 394 declining stocks versus 278 advancers, while 70 issues ended unchanged.
Commerzbank AG O.N. (ETR:CBKG) hit a five-year high, advancing 1.64% or 0.69 points to 42.75. Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (ETR:TKAG) also reached a five-year peak, rising 2.89% or 0.44 points to 15.65. In contrast, Eckert & Ziegler AG O.N. (ETR:EUZG) touched a 52-week low, slipping 2.10% or 0.27 points to 12.58.
The DAX volatility index, which gauges implied volatility of DAX options, declined 5.91% to 15.52.
Gold futures for December delivery eased 0.38% or $17.14 to $4,459.46 per troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities, crude oil for October delivery gained 1.80% or $1.65 to hit $93.13 a barrel, while the November Brent contract rose 1.49% or $1.43 to trade at $97.71 a barrel.
EUR/USD moved 0.11% to 1.16, while EUR/GBP moved 0.06% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures fell 0.28% to 98.87.
