Indian shares close lower; Nifty 50 drops 0.86%

Indian equities closed lower on Wednesday, as losses in the information technology, technology, and real estate sectors led shares down.

On the National Stock Exchange, the Nifty 50 declined 0.86% to hit a fresh one-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 lost 1.08%.

Among the Nifty 50's best performers, Adani Enterprises Ltd climbed 5.12% or 151.10 points to close at 3,104.20. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd added 3.22% or 55.00 points to end at 1,765.00, and Coal India Ltd rose 2.44% or 10.25 points to 430.50 in late trade.

The session's worst performers included Infosys Ltd, which fell 4.55% or 49.20 points to trade at 1,032.80 at the close. HCL Technologies Ltd lost 3.99% or 51.00 points to settle at 1,226.00, while Tech Mahindra Ltd dropped 3.59% or 56.00 points to 1,503.00.

On the BSE Sensex 30, the top gainers were Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd, up 3.67% to 1,771.55, Tata Steel Ltd, which advanced 2.42% to settle at 188.55, and NTPC Ltd, which gained 0.53% to close at 333.25.

The Sensex's weakest performers were HCL Technologies Ltd, down 4.55% to 1,226.55 in late trade, Infosys Ltd, losing 4.43% to settle at 1,035.00, and Tech Mahindra Ltd, which fell 3.87% to 1,502.25 at the close.

Declining issues outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1,572 to 1,031, with 47 shares unchanged. On the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2,310 stocks fell and 1,774 advanced, while 171 ended flat.

The India VIX, which tracks implied volatility in Nifty 50 options, was up 6.63% at 11.98.

In commodities, December gold delivery slipped 0.02%, or $1.05, to $4,437.95 per troy ounce. October crude oil contracts rose 2.43%, or $2.26, to $95.29 a barrel, while November Brent oil advanced 2.93%, or $2.87, to $100.79 per barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.32% to 95.11, while EUR/INR rose 0.34% to 110.59.

The US Dollar Index futures were up 0.02% at 98.81.
