Japan Stocks Close Higher; Nikkei 225 Gains 2.02%

Japanese equities closed higher on Monday, with advances in the real estate, banking and textile sectors driving the market upward.

The Nikkei 225 index gained 2.02% at the close in Tokyo.

Among the day's strongest performers on the Nikkei 225 were SoftBank Group Corp. (TYO:9984), which advanced 11.22%, or 627.00 points, to close at 6,217.00. Kioxia Holdings Corp (TYO:285A) added 9.31%, or 5,070.00 points, ending at 59,530.00, while Ibiden Co Ltd (TYO:4062) rose 8.42%, or 1,725.00 points, to 22,200.00 in late trading.

The biggest laggards of the session included Shift Inc (TYO:3697), which fell 5.91%, or 53.60 points, to trade at 852.90 at the close. Konica Minolta, Inc. (TYO:4902) declined 5.65%, or 37.20 points, to end at 621.30, and Nomura Research Institute Ltd (TYO:4307) slipped 5.61%, or 294.00 points, to 4,950.00.

Declining issues outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, with 1,849 stocks falling versus 1,650 rising, while 253 issues closed unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, fell 3.99% to 27.19.

Crude oil for October delivery rose 1.02%, or $0.93, to $92.41 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for November delivery added 1.16%, or $1.12, to hit $97.40 a barrel, while gold futures for December fell 0.83%, or $37.29, to $4,439.31 per troy ounce.

The dollar weakened against the yen, with USD/JPY down 0.24% to 155.87, while EUR/JPY declined 0.22% to 181.04.

The US Dollar Index futures slipped 0.06% to 99.09.
