Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 1.69%
In Tokyo trading on Tuesday, Japanese equities finished lower, with declines concentrated in the Paper & Pulp, Transport, and Communication sectors dragging the broader market down.
By the closing bell, the Nikkei 225 had fallen 1.69%.
Among the session's standout gainers on the Nikkei 225, Nitori Holdings Co Ltd (TYO:9843) climbed 5.47%, gaining 176.00 points to close at 3,392.00. SoftBank Group Corp. (TYO:9984) also advanced 5.45%, rising 339.00 points to finish at 6,556.00, while Oriental Land Co Ltd (TYO:4661) added 3.10%, up 96.00 points to 3,188.00 in late trade.
The worst performers on the session included JTEKT Corp. (TYO:6473), which slid 8.68% or 191.00 points to close at 2,010.50. Alps Alpine Co., Ltd (TYO:6770) dropped 8.29% or 187.00 points to end at 2,069.50, and Okuma Corp. (TYO:6103) fell 7.99% or 375.00 points to 4,320.00.
Market breadth was negative, with falling stocks outnumbering advancers on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2,586 to 915, while 236 issues ended the day unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility index, which reflects implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, declined 19.60% to 21.86, marking a fresh six-month low.
In commodities trading, crude oil for October delivery advanced 2.86%, gaining 2.62 to settle at $94.10 a barrel. Brent oil for November delivery rose 1.72% or 1.67 to hit $98.67 a barrel, while December Gold Futures fell 0.64% or 28.44 to trade at $4,448.16 per troy ounce.
In the currency market, USD/JPY slipped 0.36% to 153.80, and EUR/JPY declined 0.40% to 178.73.
The US Dollar Index Futures decreased 0.29% to 98.86.
