Meta strikes agentic AI shopping partnership with Shopify
Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META) chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said on Monday that the social media company has entered into an agentic artificial intelligence partnership with ecommerce major Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP).
In a post on X, Zuckerberg said the tie-up will “make shopping and checkout easier in Muse,” Meta’s recently unveiled personal AI agent.
Shopify chief executive Tobi Lutke had announced the partnership earlier that day, saying it would enable agentic checkout through Shop Pay across all Shopify stores.
Shopify shares climbed some 7% on Monday.
Meta released Muse earlier in September, and the agent has quickly grown in popularity over the past two weeks. Launched as a mobile application, it overtook services such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Kalshi and Polymarket on Apple’s App Store.
The Shopify agreement contrasted starkly with Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN), which blocked Meta’s Muse agent from its retail website.
