Mexico Stocks Close Lower as S&P/BMV IPC Slips 0.39%

Mexican equities finished in negative territory on Wednesday, as declines in the industrials, consumer goods and services, and consumer staples sectors outweighed gains elsewhere.

At the closing bell in Mexico City, the S&P/BMV IPC had slipped 0.39%.

Megacable Holdings, S.A.B. de C.V. (BMV:MEGACPO) was the session's standout gainer on the S&P/BMV IPC, advancing 3.18% or 1.59 points to end at 51.60. Becle SA (BMV:CUERVO) added 2.87% or 0.42 points to close at 15.07, while Grupo Carso, S.A.B. de C.V. (BMV:GCARSOA1) rose 1.75% or 2.37 points to 137.60 in late trading.

Grupo Televisa SAB Unit (BMV:TLEVISACPO) posted the largest loss, tumbling 6.04% or 0.51 points to 7.94 at the close. Bolsa Mexicana De Valores SAB de CV (BMV:BOLSAA) fell 2.23% or 0.88 points to settle at 38.50, and Alsea, S.A.B. de C.V. (BMV:ALSEA) declined 1.76% or 0.77 points to 43.04.

Declining issues outnumbered advancers on the Mexico Stock Exchange by 162 to 70, with 14 stocks ending unchanged.

In commodities, December gold futures rose 0.19% or $8.25 to $4,447.25 per troy ounce. October West Texas Intermediate crude advanced 3.91% or $3.64 to $96.67 a barrel, while November Brent gained 0.11% or $0.11 to trade at $101.77 a barrel.

In foreign exchange, USD/MXN was unchanged at 16.89 after a 0.01% move, while EUR/MXN edged up 0.04% to 19.65.

The US Dollar Index Futures were unchanged, holding at 98.78.
