Mexico stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/BMV IPC down 0.87%
Mexican equities closed lower at the close of trade on Friday, as losses in the industrials, consumer goods & services and consumer staples sectors led shares lower.
The S&P/BMV IPC closed the session down 0.87% on the Mexican exchange.
Bolsa Mexicana De Valores SAB De CV (BMV:BOLSAA) was among the session's best performers on the S&P/BMV IPC, rising 3.03% or 1.15 points to close at 39.12. Controladora Vuela Compania de Aviacion SAB de CV (BMV:VOLARA) also advanced, adding 2.29% or 0.26 points to end at 11.60, while Cemex SAB de CV (BMV:CEMEXCPO) gained 1.03% or 0.19 points to 18.64 in late trading.
Industrias Penoles Sab De CV (BMV:PEOLES) recorded the session's steepest decline, falling 3.57% or 33.56 points to 907.17 at the close. Sigma Foods SAB de CV (BMV:SIGMAFA) dropped 3.49% or 0.65 points to end at 17.99, and Grupo Carso, S.A.B. De C.V. (BMV:GCARSOA1) lost 2.96% or 4.24 points to close at 139.05.
On the Mexico Stock Exchange, 151 stocks closed lower, while 71 advanced and 15 finished unchanged.
Gold futures for December delivery declined 1.38% or 62.70 to $4,477.20 a troy ounce. In energy trading, October crude oil slipped 0.09% or 0.08 to $91.22 a barrel, while the November Brent contract rose 0.35% or 0.33 to $95.85 a barrel.
The USD/MXN exchange rate was down 0.10% at 16.89, while EUR/MXN decreased 0.19% to 19.61.
The U.S. Dollar Index futures advanced 0.25% to reach 99.13.
