Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang expected at Trump's state dinner for Xi, source says
WASHINGTON, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang is expected to attend the state dinner U.S. President Donald Trump is hosting for Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to a source familiar with the matter who spoke on Tuesday.
Trump and Xi are scheduled to meet on September 24 in Washington.
Huang's attendance comes amid rising public concern about the potential dangers of AI. Nvidia supplies chips to AI developers, making it a key player in global conversations about the technology.
The United States and China are the two major forces driving the development of advanced AI tools and the technology's adoption worldwide.
State dinners are among the highest diplomatic honors a U.S. president can grant a foreign leader and are typically reserved for heads of allied nations.
Hosting a state dinner for Xi is notable because Trump often describes China as a rival. Xi hosted a state dinner for Trump when Trump visited the country in May. Huang attended that gathering, as did SpaceX CEO and former Trump adviser Elon Musk and former Apple CEO Tim Cook.
Since his second term began, Trump has hosted one state dinner, for Britain's King Charles and Queen Camilla.
Trump's press team did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Huang's attendance at the dinner.
