Portugal stocks higher at close of trade; PSI up 0.32%
Portuguese equities finished Monday's session on a positive note, with notable strength in the utilities, financials, and technology sectors driving the market upward.
At the closing bell in Lisbon, the PSI index had advanced 0.32%.
EDP Renovaveis (ELI:EDPR) emerged as the day's standout performer, climbing 2.13% or 0.28 points to settle at 13.42. Galp Energia Nom (ELI:GALP) followed suit with a gain of 0.97% or 0.20 points, closing at 20.72, while EDP Energias de Portugal SA (ELI:EDP) rose 0.88% or 0.04 points to 4.69 in late trading.
On the downside, Ibersol SGPS (ELI:IBS) suffered the steepest decline, losing 2.25% or 0.23 points to finish at 9.99. CTT Correios de Portugal SA (ELI:CTT) slipped 1.54% or 0.10 points to end at 6.39, and Semapa (ELI:SEM) was down 1.20% or 0.25 points, closing at 20.60.
Market breadth was negative on the Lisbon Stock Exchange, with declining issues outpacing advancers 17 to 7, while six stocks closed unchanged.
In commodities, Brent crude for November delivery gained 1.42% or $1.37 to trade at $97.65 per barrel. West Texas Intermediate crude for October delivery rose 1.77% or $1.62 to hit $93.10 a barrel, while December gold futures fell 0.36% or $16.25 to $4,460.35 per troy ounce.
In currency markets, EUR/USD edged up 0.12% to 1.16, while EUR/GBP advanced slightly by 0.05% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures softened 0.28%, reaching 98.87.
