Russia Equities Slip at Close; MOEX Russia Index Holds Steady
Investing.com — Russian equities closed lower on Sunday after a session that saw varied performance across sectors, with losses outweighing gains.
At the close in Moscow, the MOEX Russia Index was unchanged, posting no change on the day.
Rosneft PJSC (MCX:ROSN) was the session's standout performer, climbing 3.01% or 9.70 points to finish at 331.65. Meanwhile, TATNEFT n.a. V.D. Shashin Pref (MCX:TATN_p) edged down 0.05% or 0.30 points to close at 571.80, while Surgutneftegas PJSC Pref (MCX:SNGS_p) slipped 0.25% or 0.11 points to 41.41 in late trade.
On the downside, AFK Sistema PJSC (MCX:AFKS) tumbled 2.98% or 0.23 points to end at 7.51. United Company Rusal IPJSC (MCX:RUAL) declined 2.93% or 0.80 points to close at 26.50, and Aeroflot PJSC (MCX:AFLT) fell 2.88% or 0.97 points to 32.72.
On the Moscow Stock Exchange, falling stocks outpaced advancing ones by 165 to 70, with 17 issues closing unchanged.
The Russian Volatility Index (RVI), which gauges the implied volatility of MOEX Russia Index options, remained flat, holding at 37.83.
Gold futures for December delivery retreated 1.38%, or $62.70, to $4,477.20 per troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities, October crude oil eased 0.09%, or $0.08, to $91.22 a barrel, while November Brent inched up 0.35%, or $0.33, to $95.85 a barrel.
The Russian ruble strengthened, as USD/RUB declined 0.51% to 86.21 and EUR/RUB dropped 1.05% to 99.66.
The U.S. Dollar Index futures edged higher, rising 0.25% to 99.13.
