Stellantis Recalls More Than 200,000 Jeep Vehicles in U.S. Over Tire-Pressure Monitor Issue
On Wednesday, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, is recalling 201,976 Jeep vehicles in the United States. The action stems from a software flaw that may prevent the tire-pressure monitoring system from detecting low tire pressure or activating the warning light.
NHTSA said the defect increases the likelihood of a crash and causes the affected vehicles to fall short of federal tire-pressure monitoring system safety requirements.
Here are the key details released by the regulator:
The affected vehicles include certain Jeep Wagoneer, Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee L, Grand Cherokee 4XE, and Grand Wagoneer models, according to NHTSA.
The recall also covers certain Jeep Wagoneer L, Grand Wagoneer L, Cherokee, and Grand Wagoneer L PHEV vehicles.
NHTSA explained that the malfunction could stop the tire-pressure monitoring system from alerting drivers to low tire pressure, thereby heightening crash risk.
To remedy the issue, dealerships will update the radio frequency hub software at no charge, the agency stated.
