Taiwan Shares End Higher; Weighted Index Rises 1.52%

Taiwanese equities closed Monday on a positive note, driven by gains in the glass, semiconductor and electronics sectors.

The Taiwan Weighted Index added 1.52% at the closing bell, reaching a fresh one-month high.

Topoint Technology Co Ltd (TW:8021) paced the advancers, jumping 10.00% or 42.00 points to close at 462.00. United Microelectronics Corporation (TW:2303) also climbed 10.00% or 13.00 points to finish at 143.00, while Holy Stone Enterprise Co Ltd (TW:3026) advanced 9.99% or 70.00 points to settle at 771.00 in late trading.

Among the laggards, LARGAN Precision Co Ltd (TW:3008) slid 10.00% or 740.00 points to 6,660.00 at the close. PELL BIO MED TECHNOLOGY CO LTD (TW:6949) retreated 9.93% or 7.40 points to 67.10, and KS Terminals Inc (TW:3003) fell 9.92% or 6.50 points to close at 59.00.

On the Taiwan Stock Exchange, decliners beat advancers by a count of 594 to 418, with 113 issues ending flat.

PELL BIO MED TECHNOLOGY CO LTD (TW:6949) shares touched an all-time low, shedding 9.93% or 7.40 points to close at 67.10.

In commodities, October West Texas Intermediate crude rose 1.54%, or $1.41, to $92.89 a barrel. November Brent added 1.59%, or $1.53, to reach $97.81 a barrel, while December gold futures eased 0.81%, or $36.46, to $4,440.14 per troy ounce.

The USD/TWD pair was down 0.12% to 31.60, while TWD/CNY changed 0.19% to 0.21.

US Dollar Index futures declined 0.06% to 99.09.
