President Donald Trump said on Monday, Sept. 7, that Bombardier, the Canadian airplane maker, would no longer be allowed to sell in the United States unless it started manufacturing its planes in the country.

On Truth Social, Trump wrote: “NO MORE SELLING BOMBARDIER IN THE UNITED STATES! Their products aren’t good enough!”

He added: “If they want our Market, they must build here, and stop treating America like a ‘piggybank.’”

A request for comment sent to Bombardier was not immediately returned.

The United States and Canada remain embroiled in a trade dispute.

In January, Trump said Washington was decertifying Bombardier’s Global Express business jets and threatened 50% import tariffs on all aircraft made in Canada unless the country’s regulator certified several planes built by Bombardier’s U.S. competitor, Gulfstream.

Neither measure took place, but the following month Canadian regulators certified several Gulfstream planes.
