US Treasury's Bessent to meet China's He Sunday at JPMorgan headquarters
Sept 19 (Reuters) - US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will meet Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng on Sunday at JPMorgan Chase headquarters in New York, a person familiar with the planning said on Saturday, with AI security, trade and other economic issues on the agenda.
The Manhattan meeting is set for 10:30 a.m. ET (1430 GMT) on Sunday, the person said, and comes just days before President Donald Trump hosts Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House in Washington on Thursday and Friday.
JPMorgan is not taking part in the meeting, the person said, but it agreed to make its headquarters available as the venue as security is tightened in Manhattan for the United Nations General Assembly beginning next week. Bessent had invited JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon to join a G20 finance leaders meeting hosted by the US Treasury in Asheville, North Carolina, where Dimon discussed private-sector growth prospects.
According to US officials, Dimon is among the American CEOs invited to a state dinner for Xi at the White House next week, but he did not travel with the group of executives who accompanied Trump to Beijing in May for the US leader's most recent meeting with Xi.
